Feedback Muchly Appreciated
Its come to my attention that some of my blog readers would prefer seeing a picture of the layout/project I am referring to when I share how I went about making them. Its a valid point, and one that's irked me since I ran out of storage here on my blog. I can buy more storage, so I can start posting pictures once again, but its a monthly payment. After discussing it with my husband, I decided to just leave it. Until now.
I want to (in the near future) start adding some more fun things to my page/blog, such as tutorials, guest bloggers, etc, and I would love/need to have the ability to post pictures.
So, I'm looking for your feedback and honesty. Is the way things are presented now sufficient to you, my loyal readers, or would something more graphic be more beneficial? I would love your feedback on this!

Oh--and in other news, I've been thinking of having a week long 'gossip blitz' (among other surprises still in the works). Tell as many of your friends about The Everyday Scrapbooker as you can, and encourage them to come on over and like my page. For every referral that becomes a new like, a prize will be sent to the person that made the referral, and to the person that liked my page. I'd really love to have more fans, and I think this would be a good way to start trying to build on my fan base.

This is a layout I need to re-create. I absolutely love it, but I feel like it needs more. It feels unfinished; too simple. And, I love the challenge of challenging myself to give it a go again! Ever feel that way about some of your projects? I do quite often, which is why I turn to sketches. But, I must be going through a sketch dry spell, because nothing is tickling my fancy. I've mentioned that a lot over the last couple of days. So, I'm venturing out on my own for a while. Maybe, just maybe, I'll turn my focus to cards for a bit, then come back to layouts. A change of scenery won't hurt!
Maren got a hold of the spray bottle, and commenced washing the floor for me. It was very sweet and helpful. I showed her a few spots on the floor that needed to be wiped up, and she set about cleaning them up. I love it when they take the initiative to help out. I wish it happened a little more frequently. I'm sure every mother wishes that!

Good afternoon! Wow, you'd think that Mother Nature would get her seasons right already!!? This blizzard weather stinks! Thankfully What's Up Friday doesn't stink. There's some great stuff to share!

Every Friday, Paper Crafts brings back one of their most popular fonts for download- for free- but its only available for the week. That means, you can only download this particular font until next Friday, upon which a new one will be available! The font this week is pretty cute. Hurry and download yours today!
It's button mania today! I've got a couple button-related items to share with you, beginning with a button giveaway over at FaveCrafts. Head on over to their giveaway page and enter for your chance to win 1500 beautiful buttons. Its the perfect way to start off your button stash. We are coming into the city for the night- first to have my hair done, and secondly to celebrate a late Easter with my parents and sister and bro in law. I'm stupid excited about it! (I'm also hoping to make it to Michael's tofind track down a replacement blade for my paper trimmer. If one can't be found, I'll be investing in a totally new trimmer! Sadly, if that's the case, this'll be #3 paper trimmer. So, either I'll have to do my homework and find one that's better quality than the other two I've owned, or just find one that's easier to replace the cutting blades! Wish me luck. I'm also hoping to find some more card stock, too, if dear husband will let me splurge a little...)

Its spring time, and we all know that means its time to start cleaning our homes from top to bottom, donating clothes and other items that no longer fit or being used, and opening up windows to freshen up stuffy houses that have been shut up for too long. But, have you ever thought about spring cleaning up your craft area, too? I think its a novel idea, and I've been slowly working on just that sort of thing. Go through your stash, and break out those papers you've had for ten years. Use them on a layout or another project! Or, donate what you know you won't use to either a school, after school program, or seniors centre. They'll put it to good use! (I'm so sorry--I don't know where I came across the ideas I just shared with you. I think it was either Paper Crafts magazine or Creating Keepsakes--or my 'old' go-to resource, Scrapbooks Etc. magazine. You can still find them online if you want to go searching for these ideas yourself. I'd love to give proper credit for the ideas I found, but alas cannot. My Own Way
Today's layout (which was posted to the FB page last night), started out like most of my other projects- with a sketch or layout I found online that I wanted to replicate. And once again, as per tradition over the last few days, I wound up taking my own route. Nothing was jiving!
I love how this layout turned out. I love the bright colors, I love the layering, which I'm coming to realize is my 'signature style'. A layout isn't a layout if I haven't layered a bunch of papers on top of each other. I have a very hard time not layering paper! Maybe its the depth that I crave so much? The other part of my 'signature style' is that I tend to use a lot of brights in my work. I love neutrals too, but I seem to gravitate towards bright colours quite often. What do you consider your 'signature style' to be? Do you have one?
For this particular layout, I wanted to pick up the colors in the photo, so chose to use yellow, green and blue. And, as I got going, pink somehow got intertwined into the design, and now it overpowers the entire layout! It looks as though it was meant to be the dominant color, but no!! It was supposed to be an accent. Meh, oh well, I think the design is eye catching anyways. I've read, somewhere along the way, that in order to help you create an appealing and 'balanced' layout, break your color scheme into parts- from lots of one color to very little of the last color. (I can't remember how they exactly explained it, so I'm going to paraphrase). So, the dominant color (or the color you use the most of on your project) would be (for example) 75%, the next 50% (so, a moderate amount of that particular color), and the last 25% (or the least amount of your last color) of your overall layout. That's probably pretty confusing, so take my layout, for example.
The pink wound up being the dominant color, and what I mean by that, is there is a lot of it. Proportionately, there's more pink in my layout than there is any other color. Its the largest piece of paper that I used on my photo mat, and it accounts for (I'd say) 75% of the colors I chose to use. Next most dominant color is blue. There's not as much blue as there is pink, yet there's still more blue found scattered around than there is yellow. I'd say that accounts for about 50% of the overall color scheme. Lastly, is yellow. As you can see, the yellow became more of an accent color than anything else. So did the green, but there's so little of that, it most definitely IS the accent color. The yellow would account for 25% of the overall color scheme.
Does any of that make sense? Is it as clear as mud? I'll try and find the link for you and share it in the very near future. It makes sense in my brain, but I'm not sure its translating well onto the computer screen.
Back to my layout. To beef up the scallop circle accent piece, I searched through all my Carta Bella and Jillibean (as well as the ancient CM and SU goodies I've got) for something, but came up dry. Nothing fit. Then, I turned to Pinterest. I looked up my Quotables board, and found a great little quote to suit the theme of my layout. The quote says, 'When it rains, look for rainbows. When its dark, look for stars'. Its perfect, because the subject in my layout kept up her spirits pretty well while she was out of commission with Mono. It can be pretty rough on a person- any time they get it- but I hear its even worse as an adult. It wasn't as bad for her as it could have been (thankfully!!), and she bounced back rather quickly.
One last quick little note--the two punched borders on the left-hand side are scraps that I'd cut down and made into my own borders. I'll post what I do with those in the near future, too!

Count Your Blessings
The layout I created tonight has been circulating in my brain for months. I've attempted a few times to put what I'm envisioning in my brain down onto paper, but it never actually happened. I'd get flustered too quickly and bail.
This time, I sat down and drew it out on paper before cutting up my good papers and hating the outcome. I'm fairly satisfied with the outcome, but what I've got envisioned still isn't totally conveyed. Its pretty darn close, though, so I'm fairly happy. I'm thinking I'm going to hang onto the sketch I made for this layout, and use it for May's sketch challenge.
Although Kyle's blood test for diabetes happened back in November, and he just got the second blood test done recently, I still don't know if he actually has diabetes. Kyle's acting like he is diabetic, but we don't really know for sure. Why make yourself a martyr if you don't have to be? Making changes is great, but don't give out false information.
The embellishments for this layout tie into the whole theme so neatly. Count your blessings- we are still healthy, we can change things, we can even reverse a pre-diabetes diagnosis with the proper diet and lifestyle changes. We are blessed to have Kyle in our lives! And, he's been blessed to have his health. Family-- I know the Krogsgaard family has its health issues; cancer is rampant in our family, and I suspect diabetes is, too, though the only person I know for sure that has it is Kyle's dad. I think his cousin, Roy, has it, too. The girls getting it is a real concern for me. I hope Kyle doesn't have it- and I hope he never gets it. I hope the girls don't get it, either.

Oh, there's some really cool things to share with you again today. I came across a really neat rain drop technique that is going to have to show up on one of my layouts one of these days. This technique obviously will be awesome for rainy day layouts, snowy day layouts (just change the droplets for snowflakes) or alligator tear drop layouts.
If you're big into sewing, and enjoy using sewing in your layouts, then this will be right up your alley. Stitch directly on your layout, and adhere brads at the end of the stitching to create rain falling from the sky. You can find the particular layout I'm referring to here.

Looking for a unique way to use up your scrap papers? Why not adhere them to a sheet of plain white card stock, run them through your die cut machine, and attach them as embellishments to your cards, layouts, or altered items? This is such a neat idea- head over to the Paper Crafts blog to see how Teri Anderson does it!
Love the look of the sunburst technique, but have a hard time wrapping your brain around how to do it, like me? Then you'll want to save this download for future use! Once again, Paper Crafts to the rescue!

Stumped
Stumped. That's the best way to describe the last layout I made, and the first of the two that I posted to my FB page today. For me, nothing seemed to jive. I hope I'm past this crop block, because I go through withdrawals when I can't play! Its utter torture.
There's nothing too fancy about my Blessings layout. I began with a sketch that I had printed out, but in the end, I just didn't feel it at all. I wound up going my own way, after much fussing and rearranging and not liking how things looked. Heh. Sometimes, we just have to go our own way. All the patterned papers on this particular layout are Jillibean Soup- from the Winter Tortellini and Country Pumpkin collections. The Blessings tag is also Jillibean (Country Pumpkin). The folder tag in the top right corner, along with the scallop circle embellishment are Carta Bella, and the rest is just miscellaneous stash that I used up.
The most important thing to note about this layout is that the black folder that's slipped behind all the paper, is actually the print of the photo that the Melting Pot took while we were having dinner. I forgot all about it until I finished the layout! I didn't know how else to incorporate it at that point, other than just slipping it in somewhere. It also meant that I needed stronger adhesive so that my project wouldn't pull apart. So, I pulled out a new pack of glue dots, and re-adhered my main photo mat (all the paper that the photo and journalling tag are adhered to).
My next layout is a little more detailed. I picked up the colors that are already found in the program and postcard that the group of actors gave me for my birthday- which was red, black and blue. I immediately thought of my nautical stamp set for this layout. It fit the theme perfectly!
On the flip side of the postcard, I adhered a small piece of scrap punched card stock, just to add a bit of interest to an otherwise busy but boring layout. I also added a journalling tag that I punched using my CM tag punch, and included just a bit of journalling on it. I also included the date we saw NCIS, which was the date of my birthday- November 3.
I also included the ticket stub from our evening out at Jubilations. A really great way to hold onto memorabilia that you eventually want to scrapbook is throwing everything into a folder or page protector. Then, everything is in one place, and you can refer to it as you complete those projects. If you really want to get organized, you can create a folder for every event, or one of every month of the year, and throw things into the corresponding folder after the event happens. Just a little food for thought. I personally like using a page protector. I can see what's inside, and it isn't often that we enjoy things such as this, so for now, I don't need anything more. Maybe that'll evolve one day in the future, but for now, don't fix anything that's not broken!
There's nothing too fancy about my Blessings layout. I began with a sketch that I had printed out, but in the end, I just didn't feel it at all. I wound up going my own way, after much fussing and rearranging and not liking how things looked. Heh. Sometimes, we just have to go our own way. All the patterned papers on this particular layout are Jillibean Soup- from the Winter Tortellini and Country Pumpkin collections. The Blessings tag is also Jillibean (Country Pumpkin). The folder tag in the top right corner, along with the scallop circle embellishment are Carta Bella, and the rest is just miscellaneous stash that I used up.
The most important thing to note about this layout is that the black folder that's slipped behind all the paper, is actually the print of the photo that the Melting Pot took while we were having dinner. I forgot all about it until I finished the layout! I didn't know how else to incorporate it at that point, other than just slipping it in somewhere. It also meant that I needed stronger adhesive so that my project wouldn't pull apart. So, I pulled out a new pack of glue dots, and re-adhered my main photo mat (all the paper that the photo and journalling tag are adhered to).

Bulletin Board
Who else found the April sketchy challenge layout incredibly inspiring? There were two ways I immediately thought of doing to recreate the background- first was to use Washi Tape to mimic the look of a bulletin board, and the second idea was to cut squares of patterned paper, and rotate them on their side so they create the illusion of diamonds. I want to try that technique next, so I'm pretty sure that if I get scrappy time tonight, that's what I'll be doing next.
My mojo must have fled the scene, because I sure struggled with what to do after I got the background completed on this layout. I just didn't know what direction I wanted to take, or how to proceed. I knew that rather than using three small photos, I just wanted to use one. I didn't want any other pictures distracting from the beautiful flowers Kyle ordered for me before we got to the Melting Pot. I'd never been to an upscale restaurant that has the option of pre-ordering full bouquets of flowers for loved ones. What a lovely and unique idea, and it blew me away (hence the title). I thought they were a centre piece for the table we were sitting at.
After playing around with squares of patterned paper and re-arranging them multiple times, I came up with the idea of taking my postcard stamp (by Stampendous) to recreate a post card, and the twine and mini clothes pins add a unique twist to the traditional bulletin board. There's a small blue tag slipped behind the postcard and photo, which houses the journalling for this layout. All I really knew after I got the lines in the background adhered was that I wanted to recreate the look of a personal bulletin board any one of us would have at home. I think for the next one I do, I'll include some receipts and a little more stamping (which I had planned on doing on this one, and forgot!!); maybe some of the kids' artwork. I'll know when I actually get there!
I did begin working on another layout after this one last night, but I struggled even more with the layout I printed to scrap lift; I scrapped that idea, and am now trying to work it out on my own. I sat for 45 minutes moving things around and not liking any of what I saw, so I decided to leave it and sleep. I'll try it again when my head has cleared. I think I left it last night before bed is the way I want to keep it. Now its just a matter of figuring out the embellishing and where to add journalling and a title!

Happy Tuesday, all! Its overcast and not the nicest here today, and I see that the Weather Network is calling for flurries over the next couple of days. I seriously hope not. The warm weather has been sooo great to lift ones spirits! Wouldn't you agree?!
The great finds out there today are super for lifting ones spirits, too! Check these out!
This is the ultimate dream of mine- and I've been seriously of doing this for the last six months, at least! Crop and CRUISE!!!! What is a Crop and Cruise? Pack all your scrapbooking goodies, some comfy clothes, your CAMERA, and scrap your way through a dreamy cruise. Of course, there'll be opportunities for some sight seeing and (obviously) picture taking. But, you get the best of both worlds- a getaway with nothing more than scrapbooking and crafting, if that's all you want to do. ON.A.CRUISE.LINER!!!!! Sounds fabulous, doesn't it? I know that Canadian Scrapbooker does one, and now I've just found out that Paper Crafts magazine also has a crop and cruise. Read all about it here. Who's in with me??
Fathers' Day is fast approaching, and soon it'll be time to be thinking about what to get/make for the Fathers in your life. Wow. Ever made a project using paper packaging- the plastic cup that holds buttons in it or brads, or other small type embellishments? Ever used other types of paper packaging to up cycle a unique project? I have not, as of yet, other than using bits and pieces of cardboard pieces of packaging as borders and paper elements on layouts. Melinda Spinks, over at the Jillibean blog today, shares how she made a candy holder using the plastic packaging portion of a Jillibean button package. Its truly awe-inspiring! I want to try it now!
And, speaking of up cycling and altering items, how about making over a guitar?! Ever thought of doing that??! I certainly haven't. But, this tutorial will blow your mind away! You'll find it here, at the Echo Park blog.
There's one last tutorial to share with you this morning- this time using alcohol ink and transparencies. This incredible tutorial shows you how to mimic the look of water. This technique is great for swimming or hot weather, or sports themed projects. Re-create the look by following the instructions you'll find here!

Monday What's Up
Good morning! Happy April first! Its April Fools' Day. Has anyone pranked you yet?
Its a new day; its Monday, and that means today is Mojo Monday. For our inspiration today, I'll be using a card that I made, using my own design, to kick off our first ever monthly challenge! Instead of 24 hours to complete a project, you've got the entire month! You can create as many projects as you want, using the example I've provided (which, you'll find on our page at FB), until midnight on the 30th of April. After all your projects are submitted, we'll vote on our favorite and the winner will be inducted into the Everday Scrapbooker hall of fame. Doesn't that sound exciting? Maybe in the process, you'll inspire someone else. That'd be the biggest compliment of all!

A good friend of mine, Sharon, just shared on her blog today, that's she's been asked to be a contributing author on a blog called Ideas for Scrapbookers. Whether you're a seasoned scrapbooker, or are just beginning in a new found hobby, you'll find a lot of great inspiration at this site. Sharon, I'm positive, will help jumpstart your mojo, too, with all her wonderful work and encouraging words. Go check it out! I'll be bookmarking it, for sure!

I Just wanted to share a few really neat things I found browsing Pinterest tonight.
First I've been seeing wedding dress cards that are made out of doilies floating around the web. The link that I finally pinned includes a tutorial on how to make it. You'll find it here!
Don't know what to do with all those Christmas cards you got for Christmas, your kids' birthdays, your own birthday, or postcards from family that are on vacation or live too far away to see regularly? Punch holes in them and make them into mini card albums! You can tie them together any way you please- either with ribbon or twine, or if you really want to get fancy, use binder rings! I love this idea. No more cards hiding in boxes around the house- now they can be displayed in an uber cute and economical way! You're saving trees (though they could be recycled if you don't want to hang on to them); but if you do, this is such a fantabulous idea!!! I've JUST started doing it!
Lastly, Paper Crafts magazine has a little giveaway going on over at their blog in honor of April Fools Day. One lucky commenter could receive a variety of stamps from a variety of manufacturers. But hurry, your entry needs to be in by Wednesday. Don't delay!

Neat Package
How would you describe this layout?
For me, its rich and busy, but in a good way. Its jam packed full of information, different elements, or in other words, embellishments, colour...there's so much to look at on such a small space of paper! How fantastic is this?! I've made the most use I possibly can on this layout. I am quite impressed!
My birthday this year was all about me. The whole weekend celebrating my birthday was for me. The reason behind it is very personal and deep and will take way too long to explain, so I'll skip over that part. Like all things, it'll probably have a way of creeping back into my work anyways. Sooner or later, you'll find out what the big secret is. I will say, however, that it's directly related to my personal struggles with depression and post-partum in the last few years.
The fun began on the second of November. Kyle had booked a date for us at the Melting Pot (in advance. If you plan on going, plan to book at least a month in advance. They are that busy.) for dinner that Friday. Neither of us expected the out-of-this-world experience we enjoyed while we were there. The brownies and chocolate fondue- my personal favourite of the entire evening- was (please excuse me) better than sex. I've never had anything so MIND BLOWING! I was so full by the time dessert rolled around, and yet I couldn't help myself when I tasted those brownies. I even asked for a second plate. O.M.G!!!!! I could have gone for a third, but I would have exploded by then. Kyle would have had to roll me out of the restaurant. Wait...he actually did...LOL
I held onto the menu that we grabbed from the restaurant, planning to work it into a layout when I got around to scrapping my birthday weekend. Thankfully, I didn't forget to include it! The layout Heather posted to her blog, recently, was the perfect platform for creating this layout. The vertical space for a 4x6 picture became the spot I would put my menu- but on the opposite side of the page. Instead of two horizontal pictures, I printed my pictures smaller (2x3), and included three black and white pictures.
On a little side note, the pictures I used on this layout are terrible. The lighting was dim in the restaurant (it was very romantic), and even though I had my camera, I used my cell phone to take the pictures. I must have forgotten the camera in the truck or something. So, my pictures were blurry and fuzzy. I was absolutely disappointed in the quality of my pictures, but consoled myself with the reminder that converting poor pictures to black and white helps hide the faults. Boy, is it ever true!
I wanted whoever will be look at my layouts in the future (primarily the girls, since my albums are going to be inherited by them), to be able to open the menu and be able to see what we ordered while at the Melting Pot. So, I just adhered the back portion of the menu so the entire thing unfolds when its opened. The two circles at the bottom, where my title work is located, works as a great tab to help open up the menu.
The back sides of the photos that overlap the menu are both slightly embellished with hearts and word stickers, both emphasizing how fantastic the restaurant was and the weekend we were enjoying sans kids. To highlight what we ordered, I used some washi tape and a small banner I made and adhered it next to our order.
After all my embellishing was complete and all the pictures and papers were adhered together, I began thinking about how I would incorporate journalling into this layout. On this particular layout, journalling was mandatory. Just the pictures and menu weren't enough to explain the reason I created this layout. It began with trying to figure out how to incorporate some hidden journalling (using a tag, large piece of paper- anything, really- and placing it behind a large element on your layout- whether its a menu like I used, or large piece of paper; and then attaching something as a pull tab so that its easy to remove from wherever its 'hidden'.)

Rather than creating hidden journalling, why not use the negative space behind the two photos that are attached to the menu for my journalling?! (Side note: I strategically placed the adhesive only on the sides of the pictures that would be attached to the menu, so that it could still be opened.) I really love how it turned out- journalling in this manner worked out marvellously- and, in more ways than one! Not only did I get my journalling done in a creative and efficient manner, my journalling also inspired my title- 33.
So now, everything ties together in a neat, if not busy, little package!

After all my embellishing was complete and all the pictures and papers were adhered together, I began thinking about how I would incorporate journalling into this layout. On this particular layout, journalling was mandatory. Just the pictures and menu weren't enough to explain the reason I created this layout. It began with trying to figure out how to incorporate some hidden journalling (using a tag, large piece of paper- anything, really- and placing it behind a large element on your layout- whether its a menu like I used, or large piece of paper; and then attaching something as a pull tab so that its easy to remove from wherever its 'hidden'.)
"Lightbulb moment"!!!!!!!
Rather than creating hidden journalling, why not use the negative space behind the two photos that are attached to the menu for my journalling?! (Side note: I strategically placed the adhesive only on the sides of the pictures that would be attached to the menu, so that it could still be opened.) I really love how it turned out- journalling in this manner worked out marvellously- and, in more ways than one! Not only did I get my journalling done in a creative and efficient manner, my journalling also inspired my title- 33.
So now, everything ties together in a neat, if not busy, little package!
CREATE- What's Up Sunday
What a wonderful Easter Sunday we had! As per tradition, we had waffles for breakfast (any time Kyle is home with us- which tends to be weekends- we have either pancakes or waffles), then the craziness started. LOL. I dived into making my homemade dinner rolls, the girls and I made pretty bracelets that the Easter bunny left for them, we picked at a small lunch, and had a giant supper filled with home made chicken cordon bleu, stuffing, mashed potatoes and coleslaw. THEN we splurged even further on a cake I made. Oi. I'm.So.Full. Pictures can be found on the FB page!
I've been trying to gather my thoughts most of the afternoon for this blog post. I'm still not sure I've got it together. There's a lot of things that I've got on my mind, and I think its all going to come out as one incoherent mess. I guess I'll just have to blunder ahead and see what happens.
I've been planning for some time now, an eventual layout about the penny being taken out of circulation, and the eventual dismissal of the nickel, as well. I've been waiting for an opportunity to snap a picture of the posters you'll see around in stores- IGA, Sobey's, the Dollar Store, etc. about the way cash purchases will be made, now that the penny is no longer. I finally had the opportunity yesterday when I brought the kids to the store for finger paints. I'm sure the cashier has never had a more strange request- and I'm so glad that I actually remembered to ask about taking a picture of the notice at her till- but I got it. Why is it so important to me to get a picture of something so inconsequential? Well, I'm flabbergasted and incredulous that the penny's been taken out of circulation. Is anyone else? And, I can't help but think to myself that in another 5 or 6 years, the girls are going to ask me what pennies are. They're going to ask because they won't know. They'll grow up in a penniless world. What an amazing opportunity to scrap about something they're eventually going to learn in Social in high school. I posted a Point to Ponder today on the FB page, and that's one of the things I was thinking of when I made that post.
The other inspiring topic to me is scrapbooking Ralph Klein's passing and the legacy he left behind in our beautiful province. He was hated by many and loved by equally as many; no one can argue he did tremendous things in our province- whether they agree with his strategy or not. The GST, his brainchild, took this province from a major deficit into the black, making it a very wealthy province. (Of course, among other factors that contributed to that, as well). Once again, its going to be something that the girls will only hear about in Social; it'll have no value or impact on their lives whatsoever. True, this happened in a completely different lifetime than theirs. I just hope that they come to understand that in the grand scheme of things, these changes weren't really all that long ago. It was something that eventually affected their mama's and daddy's lives, though at the time, we were little monsters ourselves.
Is any of this making sense, or am I just rambling? That's the way I feel...
I've had some feedback from some friends about having an eventual weekend crop away, and I'm ecstatic that there's some interest in it. I know that some of you have babies and are going to find it hard to commit to a weekend like this for a while. Its still sometimes hard to get away when your babies are toddlers! That's why I want to pose a small adjustment to this plan. I hadn't wanted to mention anything just yet, because I wasn't sure what sort of response I'd get, but I feel confident now that there will probably be interest further down the road, too. I've been thinking about planning a couple weekend crops per year; maybe early in the year, after Christmas and New Years is out of the way, and then again later on in the year, after Thanksgiving and before Christmas makes everyone nutso with all their planning and cooking. Having said that, I think I may plan an impromptu crop for sometime in the near future- either we'll do it here at my house, or if there's enough interest and enough people are able to attend, (and if its easier for people) I'll plan something for in the city, so those that have babies can still make it home at the end of the day. On the other hand, those mama's will have the freedom to decide when, during the day, they want to come out. Bring your littles with you. How does that sound? Feedback. Please!!
April is going to be a busy month for us, so it won't happen this month. Possibly sometime in May or June, I think will be best.
Are you curious to know what the secret tip is about sketches that I alluded to yesterday on the FB page ? I can finally share with you! I love this, because it helps break down, into steps, how to tackle creating a layout using a sketch that you find inspiring. Ready??
On page 80, in the most current (spring 2013) issue of Canadian Scrapbooker, is a 6 step method designed to help you figure out how to tackle that awesome sketch you want to scrap lift. It uses the letters of the word CREATE to guide your steps.
C- Choose your photos
Every person scrapbooks differently; some like to print out a bunch of photos using an online method of printing, such as Walmart, Snapfish, Costco, Apple, etc. Others (like me) prefer to print them at home. I personally like printing my photos because first, all my pictures are saved chronologically already on my computer (I have a Mac), so I don't need to worry about printing out a hundred at a time and finding a storage method to keep my photos. The older photos I have, pre-Mac, are saved in a Creative Memories accordion folder, which I'll one day get back to. Bah hah. Secondly, I like not having to wait for my pictures to either be mailed to me, or make a trip down to the store to pick them up. I can print them at will- also, I'll have already decided, as I'm looking through my pictures while I'm planning this layout, which ones I want to use and edit, and which ones I don't. It makes the process a little quicker, and there won't be as much planning ahead.
Another method I use to help keep my facts straight, and help me keep track of which pictures I want to scrapbook, and which are could be, but not necessary, is keeping a journal and jotting down what each picture that I want to scrap is about. I started doing this when I began Project 365 last year. Sometimes what I've written down is really vague, and I don't quite remember what it was I was getting at, so things change slightly, but that's ok.
You'll develop a method that works the best for you.
R- Review the Sketch
Look carefully at the sketch you're about to copy and ask yourself some basic questions before you plunge into creation mode. First, how many pictures are in the sketch? How many different patterned papers? Embellishments? There's a few things I've noticed myself asking when I look at a sketch: first, (like the step has just recommended) asking myself how many pictures are included in the sketch. If I have more pictures that I want to scrapbook than what's shown in the sketch, I try to find ways to make more space for those photos. Sometimes, its printing the photos smaller than what the sketch calls for; other times, its replacing some of the embellishments with a photo. Don't feel restricted to exactly what the sketch looks like. The sketch is only meant to be your starting line; its meant to be inspiration for you. You have the freedom to interpret it any which way you like. Always remember, there's no right or wrong way to scrapbook! Secondly, I ask myself if I really need the amount of embellishments that are shown in the sketch (or if there's a lack thereof, how many and where should they go?) If it feels too busy for me, but I still like the overall sketch, I put as many as suits my style. If there's none showing in the sketch, I still do the same thing.
You'll find that most of my layouts are based on a sketch I've seen or a layout I've admired. They are rarely exact replicas. Also, if you like a sketch so much, you decide to create another layout based on that sketch, you'll find that one will come out completely different from the other one you created using it. That's the beauty of using sketches.
E- Evaluate your color palette and paper choices
Just lately, I've gotten into this desire to create my layouts using color palettes I've found on Pinterest. Up until this point, I've been pulling colors from the pictures I'm scrapbooking to inspire my color palette. Sometimes, the pictures dictate best what colors are best. Whatever you find easiest, stick with. That means, I try and find card stock and patterned paper that are the same shades and tones, and I try to pair papers that coordinate and compliment each other. Sometimes that can be kind of hard, if you're using product from a bunch of different companies (which is something I do frequently). To simplify, try using papers and embellishments that come from the same manufacturer; more often than not, most of their lines will coordinate with one another, so you won't need to worry too much about matching.

As I mentioned above, nothing is set in stone. Your copy of the sketch doesn't need to be an exact replica. So, when you're thinking about what embellishments you want to use, don't limit yourself to using flourishes or circles or diamonds because that's what you see in the sketch. Then, use skeletons, grave stones, haunted houses, cotton, the options are limitless. If you don't have embellishments that fit that particular theme (like I did for halloween), then try to think creatively and outside the box. What can you do instead?
T- Try a Technique
There are so many different techniques out there to try, its hard to keep up with them all. Some you'll find really interesting, and you'll itch to try it out, and others just won't tickle your fancy at all. But, don't be afraid to try them. You might find you really like them! What are some of those techniques? Try acrylic paint, stencils, making your own flowers, crocheting directly onto your layout, stamping, distressing, aging, the list goes on. The texture and dimension it adds to your project will add yet another level of pride and interest.
E- Enjoy your layout, and SHARE!!!
Don't ever feel like your layout isn't as good as someone elses'. We are all unique, we are all creative, and we all create in different ways. Our stories are different from everyone elses'. What's most important are the memories you've created, and the heritage you're creating for your children and their children. Be proud of who you are! Like I've mentioned before, the feedback you receive on the work you've created is addicting! Its part of the reason I've joined a forum at scrapbook.com. Its built up my confidence, believe it or not. So has creating using sketches. Sketches takes the guesswork out of where to put things and where to start. I find it an incredibly handy tool.

If more time allows, you may create and submit more than one project. At the end of the month, we'll vote for our most favorite project using that sketch, and the winner will be inducted into the Everyday Scrapbooker Hall of Fame. Easy Peasy! I hope you're able to play along!

My Weakness
OK, I admit it. I'm a sucker for anything scrappy. I'm so weak! I found some really awesome goodies, I just HAD to share! (Case in point)
So first off, for those of you that are scared of scrapbooking or feel overwhelmed by terms like layout, 12x12, two page spreads, etc, this might be of interest to you. Maybe you're scared of the financial investment scrapbooking is. And, true, it can be hefty. It can also be overwhelming. Where do you begin, where do you place things, are you even artistic enough to do it? The answer is yes, you can, and work from your heart! There's no right or wrong way to do things! ANything that spills from your heart onto a piece of paper, a quilting square, that scarf you're knitting, or the embroidery you're working on, is a masterpiece. Don't feel like you can't do it. Because truthfully, I think that's a cop out. You can do whatever you put your mind to.
Now that I've gotten off my soapbox, I have a really cool alternate path to the type of scrapbooking that you see me doing, and the projects that I typically share with you. This way of scrapbooking is actually new to me- I've only recently come across this method, and I think its ingenious. I don't know how else to put it. Its just plain in.gen.ious! Maybe its worth a shot, to gently ease yourself into a newfound and newly LOVED hobby!
Take your typical every day photo album. Take the inserts with two, four or more spaces for photos, and place as many or as little photos as you'd like into the sleeves. Either embellish on top of the plastic, right on the photo itself (in the negative spaces) or save some of the photo spaces for sheets of colored paper or patterned paper to dress up a little. The possibilities are endless!
I'm thinking of sharing this technique with my mom. She's convinced she can't do it. Well, now I'm armed with proof that SHE CAN!!!! And, so can you! Check this link out for a small visual of what I'm talking about. How simple and fabulous is that?!
Does it take a little bit of the apprehension out of you?
If scrapbooking seriously isn't your bag of beans, but some of the patterned paper you see you think would make fabulous fabric, maybe checking this out would be of interest to you. If you're a person that enjoys sewing. Or, why not combine the two- scrap a little AND sew using the same patterned paper you're in love with, but with the fabric version instead? I actually think its a pretty wild and smart notion, too. Some people's creativity just blows my mind!!

Lastly, I mentioned on my FB page that the next time you're out and about shopping up the local Dollarama or Dollar Store with more, you should check out the scrapbooking goodies in stock. Seriously, you should. I have to admit, I am incredibly impressed with the stock they are producing these days! I'll get a picture posted in the next couple of days of some of the goodies I picked up today, but who would have thought that they'd have wooden thread spools in varying sizes hanging on the shelf, or the new hot fad WASHI TAPE??! (Don't know what washi tape is? Essentially, its paper tape, but patterned and decorative and incredibly pretty. See here.) Moreover, I'm equally as impressed with the brand Sandy Lion. They are obviously doing what they can to keep up with the big manufacturing companies out there. Not only are they still producing the typical run of the mill stickers that kids have fun playing with, they are also beefing up their sticker arsenal with prettier, more decorative, variegated styles of stickers- that are GREAT for scrapbooking. Sandy Lion has WASHI TAPE! I picked two rolls up today, and I can hardly wait to try them out! (I also had to pick up some more acrylic paint. I love that stuff! I want one of every colour).
So, now that I got that out of my system, I can enjoy the rest of my weekend! Heh heh
It turns out Kyle's job tomorrow is now cancelled (for the time being), so we are planning dinner with just us and the kids. I'm going to make some delicious dinner buns that I found scouring Pinterest (thank you, Pinterest!!), and we're going to try a new chicken recipe out for supper. Apparently, we hit the grocery store too late on Easter-eve to buy a turkey breast. Meh, oh well! Chicken tastes just as good! I also got a cake made, with the kids help today, so we'll get that all iced up and ready to go tomorrow, too!

I'm thinking of sharing this technique with my mom. She's convinced she can't do it. Well, now I'm armed with proof that SHE CAN!!!! And, so can you! Check this link out for a small visual of what I'm talking about. How simple and fabulous is that?!

I actually think its a pretty wild and smart notion, too. Some people's creativity just blows my mind!!

Lastly, I mentioned on my FB page that the next time you're out and about shopping up the local Dollarama or Dollar Store with more, you should check out the scrapbooking goodies in stock. Seriously, you should. I have to admit, I am incredibly impressed with the stock they are producing these days! I'll get a picture posted in the next couple of days of some of the goodies I picked up today, but who would have thought that they'd have wooden thread spools in varying sizes hanging on the shelf, or the new hot fad WASHI TAPE??! (Don't know what washi tape is? Essentially, its paper tape, but patterned and decorative and incredibly pretty. See here.) Moreover, I'm equally as impressed with the brand Sandy Lion. They are obviously doing what they can to keep up with the big manufacturing companies out there. Not only are they still producing the typical run of the mill stickers that kids have fun playing with, they are also beefing up their sticker arsenal with prettier, more decorative, variegated styles of stickers- that are GREAT for scrapbooking. Sandy Lion has WASHI TAPE! I picked two rolls up today, and I can hardly wait to try them out! (I also had to pick up some more acrylic paint. I love that stuff! I want one of every colour).
So, now that I got that out of my system, I can enjoy the rest of my weekend! Heh heh
It turns out Kyle's job tomorrow is now cancelled (for the time being), so we are planning dinner with just us and the kids. I'm going to make some delicious dinner buns that I found scouring Pinterest (thank you, Pinterest!!), and we're going to try a new chicken recipe out for supper. Apparently, we hit the grocery store too late on Easter-eve to buy a turkey breast. Meh, oh well! Chicken tastes just as good! I also got a cake made, with the kids help today, so we'll get that all iced up and ready to go tomorrow, too!
Now, the only question is yellow icing or green?!
Non Traditional
The past few weeks has been in a state of familial chaos the last few weeks with Kyle working such crazy hours. When spring break is finally here, I see him sleeping for a couple days solid to get his body back into a normal routine! Last night, he got up at 1 to head into work. He's got to go back tonight- but this time, he's got to be getting ready at midnight. He'll be heading to Valleyview, which is a good 4 hours form here. Oh, the life of an oilfield worker! (And their families!)
So, other than Thursday night, I've spent a considerable amount of time in my craft room. My mojo must have found me, because I churned out three entire layouts last night. Can you believe that?! I'm slightly flabbergasted! I wonder what tonight will bring?!
Our Easter plans are slightly on hold for the moment; I do plan on baking a cake today- with the girls' help, of course- but otherwise its going to be a normal, quiet weekend for us here. We are hoping to make next weekend our 'Easter' weekend; my parents will be back home (they are currently on vacation right now) and Kyle should be done work. If he isn't, at least it'll be his regular weekend off. He's going to need a break by then!
While I'm on the topic of Easter, as I was heading to bed last night, I wandered into the kitchen to grab a little shot of juice to whet the whistle, and two of my fridge magnets caught my eye. They struck a chord deep within me, but I couldn't say why exactly it was so profound to me. They are two birds- doves (I think. But, I affectionately call them chicks)- and they're facing each other. One is yellow, the other is white. The word "Easter" jumped out at me when I saw them.
Just one of those 'hmm' moments, I guess.
Kyle is big into drag racing. He has his own race truck, that he enjoys tinkering on and plans on (slowly) improving, as finances and time allows. We haven't raced much since moving back to Alberta, but we did occasionally attend the race track in Estevan when we lived in Saskatchewan. Some of you may know that already. He's joked, time and again, that his girls are going to grow up to be funny car race drivers. Yeah.Right. Not if I can help it! I don't mind if they drag race, and start out racing rails, but they are--WILL NOT--race funny cars. They're too fast and too dangerous. He also jokes that I should take up drag racing. I've got a better reaction time than he does (heh heh). It could possibly be on my bucket list.
The first layout I finished last night is a perfect example, in Kyle's defence, of why the kids should learn to drag race. They love speed, they love playing racing games on their daddy's iPhone, and they love pretending to 'race' around the house in a cardboard box. That's what Addison was doing in my 'Race Car' layout. Kyle would push the box up with his toes and make car sounds, pretending to race the kids around the world.
Up until the very last minute, the title for this layout was going to be 'Pretending'. Then, after I got the journalling done, I realized that the title didn't really explain what this layout is all about. Instead, it would have been confusing, and the whole point would have gotten lost in the shuffle. So, I gently peeled off the alphas, and edited the title to read 'Race Car'.
You're probably wondering where the journalling is. Its there, but its hidden! I'm on a flip book craze lately, and this layout is no exception. The layout I scrap lifted this one from (which means copied, basically) didn't include room for journalling, so I had to be creative and make room for it. I made the flip book to 1) save paper- so I wasn't throwing out any paper that could easily have been used up; and 2) I wanted lots of space to write in, since my writing is so big and fluffy. There. Killed two birds with one stone!
The main color scheme I wanted to follow on this layout was kraft (brown), red and blue. The yellow makes a terrific accent color, and actually steals the show. The blue and brown are so muted, while the red and yellow are so intense and dramatic, I love the contrast between them. They also provide a great contrast between Addisons' personality (which is quiet and laid back), while the bright, vivid colors helps highlight the intensity of race car driving.
Also, one last little note: the blue floral paper in the background was created using a Creative Memories paper tearing tool. Remember how I mentioned in a previous post that my paper trimmer is incredibly dull and tends to tear thin paper? Yeah- that's what happened with this patterned paper. To camouflage the torn edges, I embellished with the paper tearing tool. I love the look here!
One of the best things about having girls is that I can have make overs with them! I'm a girly girl. I like having my hair all pretty, some make up on, and pretty clothes. I like to feel good about myself, and getting dolled up and painting my nails (once in a while) helps me achieve that. The girls really enjoy it, too. So, one day, during play time, we sat down to have a little make over. They were all.over.it like a pig in mud. (And, I can hear the girls saying to me 'but, I don't want to be a pig'). We have yet to understand what that phrase means! Heh heh.
I scrap lifted a layout I had seen on the Jillibean Soup blog for this particular project. It works perfectly to frame and highlight the star of my layout: the picture of Addison. This picture is a personal favorite of mine! I'm in love with it! It isn't the best- her one eye is covered, but that's what makes it so great. My blush brush is perfect to highlight the theme of my layout. MAKE UP!!!! (That, and her sweetly, toddler-done smudged lipstick).
The last layout I created was using the newest sketch to be posted to the LCOM (Lets Capture Our Memories) blog. If you want to play along, you can find the sketch here. I'm pretty sure I'm going to submit this layout to their challenge. When I saw that my friend Melissa had posted it, I knew instantly that it would be perfect for this layout.
I am not a big fan of halloween decorations. I'm more of a harvest type of gal. That's what I'd rather decorate my house with, because I love the warm, inviting, deep colours this time of year boasts. Not that I have anything against halloween decorations, or anyone out there that enjoys decorating for the holiday. I just don't like the dark connotations of it. Does that make sense? Anyways, it just boils down to personal preference. So, when it came to creating this years' halloween layout, it wasn't about using traditional halloween colours; it was all about coordinating with the girls' costumes!
The girls dressed up as fairies for halloween. At first, we were going with butterflies (that's what they'd asked for), but since the weather was incredibly cold that weekend, I ran to the dollar store, found tiara's to wear over their toques, and little wands, and VOILA! they were fairies. Later on (after the pictures in the layout were taken), I put the girls in snow pants. It slowed them down quite a bit, but at least they were warmer!
I had a lot of fun creating the title cluster on the bottom left portion of my layout. I love the mixture of alphas and sticker phrases, journalling spot, buttons and tags. Its very eclectic and personally a lot of fun! IMHO. To help draw the eye around the page, I included the date in the upper right corner of my layout. A goal to always keep in mind when you're creating is to follow an invisible grid in your mind; divide your layout into threes and try to embellish where those lines interect, to create a design 'sweet spot'. Its effective, but a technique I sometimes find hard to do.
What do I love the most about this layout? The non traditional color scheme! The colors I used are everything opposite to halloween and fall, and I think its fantastic!!

What's Up Friday
Well, after suffering without power this morning for a couple of hours, I got a lovely email from scrapbook.com letting me know there's new yummy goodies in the superstore- the ones that caught my eye in particular are Carta Bella and Simple Stories. I've been seeing crafting with paper towel rolls all over Pinterest lately, and now the blogging world is starting to jump on the bandwagon. I have to admit, some of it looks pretty darn cool! One of these days, I'm going to try stamping with toilet paper rolls (which is only one of the many uses/techniques I've seen using toilet paper rolls). Look here at these neat crafts!

I've had a clear storage box in my possession for quite some time. I used it up until recently to store some of my patterned paper in, but have recently retired it, looking to use it someday in another way. You may find you like using them to store your paper, though. FaveCrafts is having a giveaway; two very lucky people could win these boxes- they come in a variety of colors and are durable and a great way to store a couple hundred sheets worth of paper, or your projects on the go. Go check them out!
Speaking of giveaways, Creating Keepsakes also has a giveaway. Unfortunately, for those of us that live outside the States, we are not eligible to win the main giveaway, which is a fabulous CM border system and one of Simple Stories' collections. Lifestyle Photos
Good afternoon! How is your Thursday going? Its another beautiful day here- we're above 10 degrees again this afternoon. The windows are cracked a bit again today, letting some of that wonderful fresh air into the house to freshen things up again. I love it!! We waited until nearly noon for Kyle to come home--he was gone for a good 16 hours last night! Yikes. He says there's a possibility he could be going out again tonight; if not, he's got a rig move going on tomorrow. In a way, I hope he doesn't have to work until tomorrow. He's going to need the rest. Switching from day to nights to days again is going to wreak havoc on his internal clock. I don't envy him at this time of year at all!
To keep myself busy last night, I created another layout, and the finished product came about by chance. Sort of. I desperately need a new blade for my paper trimmer, but Walmart doesn't carry the replacement blades (yet they carry the paper trimmer, itself. Go figure). Grrr. (On a tangent, its like training pants. They have potty training underwear for the littles, but don't carry the plastic liners that a toddler wears over top of them. S.M.R.T. If you ask me.)
Cutting regular weight patterned paper is taking chance into your own hands- the cut could be crisp and clean, but more likely, its going to be ripped and torn and plain messy looking. Which, it was. So, I decided to roll with it. I broke out a piece of sand paper (which I haven't used in a coons age), and distressed the edges of all the paper in this layout, including the pictures. I was going for a shabby chic sort of look. I don't think I mastered it at all, but I do like the distressed look. Actually, I love the distressed look. I need to do it a little more often. I love the personality and character it adds.
I began with a plain piece of white card stock, and used a tooth brush (of all things) to paint on the background. I like the dry brushing look it lends. I tried the splattering technique first, but haven't quite gotten the hang of it. I scrapped that idea and just painted the old fashioned way (except for the tooth brush part). I cut the squares of patterned paper to the same size as the pictures, which is 2x3--which I find works incredibly well for an 8.5x11 size layout, if you want multiple photos--then embellished them a bit using stickers, a photo corner and what was left of the patterned paper I used behind the white card stock.
Lastly, the numbers of the date didn't match my color scheme (which I pulled inspiration from Pinterest for), so I painted them up, too. I used a small paint brush to add color, then took a dry paint brush and dry stroked them to help some of the color pop through, but not too much. It also adds a bit more texture to the layout, too. IRL it almost looks like wood grain.
The inspiration for my layout came from Pinterest (it originally came from the JBS blog, I do believe), but there was no way I was going to be able to stretch my title work across the top of the page. I split it up- part of it along the top of the spread, and the last half along the bottom of my spread. It helps carry your eye right to the bottom of the layout. I think, though, if I were to tweak it a little more, I'd add some more deep brown accents to my layout, as another way to help draw a persons eye around the page. I can't help but feel the eye gets stuck on the date.
Meh, oh well. Work place hazard :) I'm still in love with my layout!!

Lastly, the numbers of the date didn't match my color scheme (which I pulled inspiration from Pinterest for), so I painted them up, too. I used a small paint brush to add color, then took a dry paint brush and dry stroked them to help some of the color pop through, but not too much. It also adds a bit more texture to the layout, too. IRL it almost looks like wood grain.
The inspiration for my layout came from Pinterest (it originally came from the JBS blog, I do believe), but there was no way I was going to be able to stretch my title work across the top of the page. I split it up- part of it along the top of the spread, and the last half along the bottom of my spread. It helps carry your eye right to the bottom of the layout. I think, though, if I were to tweak it a little more, I'd add some more deep brown accents to my layout, as another way to help draw a persons eye around the page. I can't help but feel the eye gets stuck on the date.
Meh, oh well. Work place hazard :) I'm still in love with my layout!!
I may or may not attempt scrapping again tonight. It all depends on what my husband wants to do and how he feels. If he needs more sleep, I'll be back in here crafting up a storm. But, if he feels lively enough, I'm going to chillax with him, instead. I've missed him these last two days!
What's Up Thursday
Wow, another day is here! After a rough night between the twins, morning came way too quickly for me! But, I'm making the best of it. I got the vacuuming done already, and will shortly tackle the laundry. Miss Maren has no clean jammies left. Yikes!

For a long time, I'd stalked the JBS products that were in the online store at scrapbook.com, deeply admiring the colors, the patterns and beauty of Jill's line. Then, I got my first gift card, and was able to purchase some of my dream product! Ever since then, I've continued to admire the products that Jill's design team produces, and I'm coming to like Jill as a person, too. She's got great energy and seems to be a relatable, down to earth individual. There's more projects up on the JBS blog today. Check them out!

Here's a little tidbit for you: another of my utmost favorite scrapbooking manufacturers is Carta Bella. I found out, after some snooping around the other day, that Carta Bella is a sister company of another scrapbooking manufacturer, Echo Park. Since I'm already having an affair with Carta Bella, I figured I'd probably love Echo Park equally as much. Yes, I do!!! I don't have any of their product yet, but I am stalking them on Pinterest and scrapbook.com AND on their blog. ANd, up on their blog today, are some delicious projects! More Easter goodies today! (Which, by the way, are you ready for it??!)

Simple Stories is up with a gorgeous layout and an incredibly stunning card. I had to pin it to Pinterest! The colors are incredibly yummy! (A little secret--Simple Stories is another fave of mine!) The design team member used papers from their new collection, Urban Traveller. Glorious stuff!!
Personalizing a card is something I've personally never done, but its on my scrappy bucket list! The Go-To Gals over at Paper Crafts magazine has just the remedy for that!
If you're a Pinterest junkie like me, you may have seen a lot of chalkboard art around lately. Its a hot trend nowadays, and I love the way it looks. If I had the right tools, I'd love to replicate it. Check out what Laina Lamb has to say about it!

Our Easter is going to be a quiet one. I think my husband is working through the holiday, so we'll be staying home and celebrating with just the four of us. Having said that, though, we are coming into the city next weekend (the first weekend in April) to celebrate a late Easter with my sis and BIL and my parents. I'm looking forward to it! How do you spoil your little ones at Easter time? I don't want to give the kids candy (they don't need it- they still have a butt load of candy left from Halloween), so instead, I like them to show me what they're interested in and like when we're out shopping. I take notes (but, they're oblivious to it) and pay particularly close attention to them, and try and get a few things that really interest them. Its neat to see them showing a keen interest in art at such a young age. What drew them the last time we were out shopping? A bead kit to make your own bracelets and necklaces. I'm down with that! So, that's what they are getting for Easter!

And lastly, the next design team call is open for Lets Capture Our Memories. They are fantastic- I was on the design team early last year, and I had an absolute blast there! Everyone is friendly, the sketches are phenomenal, and it was a lot of fun being challenged to create something new twice a month. They are also a Canadian Company, and another online forum like Two Peas in a Bucket, Scrapbook.com, etc. If you're interested in joining a design team; if you've been dreaming of it like I had, then I urge you to apply! You never know, you might make it, and you'll definitely have a blast when you do!!
I would love to re-apply, but right now isn't the time for that. Maybe one day again in the future. Don't be shy. Check it out!!
Outside the Box
I am finally nearing the end of our boudoir/lifestyle photo session scrapbook pages. In a way, I'm kind of sad that I'm at the end (I have only one layout left in this series), but in a way, I'm incredibly satisfied. Not only did I scrapbook these pictures for the girls to look back on, and see what fun their mama and auntie A had, but I also got a special mini album and layout done for my best friend. That's about as fulfilling as scrapbooking can get. And, nothing is more rewarding!
I'm now contemplating making a layout of our day just for myself, to hang on one of the walls in our house. I just might have to do that!
The layout I completed last night, the one you'll find here, finally deals with the whole point of our day: our photos! As part of my package, I got to have a few lifestyle photos done, so those are in plain view on this layout. I wasn't comfortable sharing my boudoir photos with the world wide web, so I got creative with the sketch I used, and the layout I created.
This is my favorite part! In the sketch, a tag with journalling was added to the right side of both pictures. Since this layout didn't require any journalling, I switched it up and made this cute little flip book, which is tied closed with lace ribbon. I used the lace ribbon to mimic the outfit I was wearing in my boudoir photos, which is partly white lace. If anyone wants to see the hidden pictures, all they need to do is untie the ribbon, and flip through the book. For a little bit of a teaser, I made each succeeding page a tad bit longer (also so the pages are a bit easier to flip). I also switched the placement of the journalling tag- rather than the right side, I put my flip book on the left side of the layout.
The outfit I wore for my boudoir photos is black and white, so I wanted to stick with a color scheme that highlighted those two colors. I found a color scheme (on Pinterest) that added yellow as an accent color, so used varying shades and tones of yellow and light brown/ to accent this layout. Once again, I carried the lace theme throughout the layout, using a lace doily in the background.
When it was time to add the title work, I began wondering what type of alpha would be best to use. I wanted to add a bit of a glamorous air, since both A and I felt pretty glamorous all dolled up, so pulled out my dollar store glitter alphas. There wasn't a second 'O' in black, so I cut a part a lower case 'd', to make the letter 'O', and consequently a letter 'I', since I wasn't able to find that in black, either. Once in a while, it helps to think outside the box!
Its a very simple design, but that's the way I like it!

One.Incredible.Day
Back in October, my best friend and I decided to have a photo shoot done together. She had come across a really great deal for one, and she knew that I'd been wanting (for quite a while) to have a boudoir photo shoot done.
After humming and hawing over it, and running the idea past my husband, I took the plunge and had pictures done with her. We made an entire day out of it: we got our hair and make up done, then had the photo shoot later in the day.
It was an INCREDIBLE day!
One that we will not forget any time soon.
Just recently, my best friend asked me if I would make a layout for her- memorializing our incredible photo shoot, and day we spent together.
I consented, and after thinking on it for a couple of days, I suggested to her that maybe instead of *just* a layout, I would make a mini album and layout for her. I was thinking that focusing on one fabulous picture (in the layout) would be a lot nicer than cluttering it up with a whole bunch of pictures- especially since this is going to be displayed somewhere in her home.
I am finally done the project I made for her- I worked on it all week, fully expecting my computer ink to run out half way through, but amazingly I got it done!
I can't show you the whole thing just yet- I want her to have them in her possession before I do that, but I can share a little sneak peek with you! You'll find it here:

That's right, I'm planning a scrapbook challenge- April will be a card sketch challenge- and each participant has the entire month to create one or as many cards using this sketch as you'd like!
Pretty easy, right?! I'm hoping so! I know its hard for new moms or moms with more than one child, and even mamas (or manly men!!) that hold down full-time jobs to get scrapbooking in, that's why I'm holding it for the entire month.
Here are the requirements:
-Head over to my Facebook page to find the card and sketch
-Like my page (I would appreciate it immensely!!) if you haven't already
-Create as many cards-- or layouts!!!-- as you'd like within the month of April
-Deadline for your projects will be midnight April 30th; the challenge will begin on the first of April
-Completed projects can be uploaded to my Facebook page, where we'll have a chance to vote for our most favorite project, upon which the winner will be announced Friday, May 3rd
-The winner of the challenge will be inducted into the hall of fame!

Labor Of Love
I just wanted to pop in and share a little bit of a background behind the new name of my page (which you can find here), and my blog.
The name of my blog, and my blog style, sort of evolved over the last year. On a whim, I decided to try out Project Life, or as some call it, Project 365. The main idea behind this project, is taking a picture every day, and scrapbook it, which is what I did. Faithfully. But, unlike everyone else, who creates spreads that span an entire week (one layout each, devoted to one week of life), I scrapped each daily picture into a daily layout. (So, in essence, a page a day). I'm severely behind--I'm still working on 2012, but I'm not sweating it. It isn't like I'm in a race to get all my scrapbooking done. If I finish too quickly, then what will I do?!
A lot of people get stressed out by the intensity of a project like this, and its completely understandable. But, why let the stress get to you? Make it your own! Work at your own pace! There's no right or wrong way to do things, and if you miss a day or two, or a week or two, here and there, the scrapbooking police won't come knocking your door down! Its totally ok!
I really enjoyed Project 365; so much, that I'm continuing with it this year. I may not take a picture every day, but I do nearly every day. And, I'm fine with that. My goal is preserving our family life and family tree, and life in general, for my kids to look back on and learn from. And, hopefully, treasure. Mostly, this is where my title came from.
I participate in some (but currently just one) forums at my online gallery, scrapbook.com. I mainly joined them because its always nice hearing some positive feedback about the projects we've made; the encouragement is addictive. Most of the comments that I receive from people are how they love that the theme of 98% of my layouts are based on daily life. And, I LOVE that. My kids are young; they do and say things that I don't want to forget. There's things about them that are so much like their mama and daddy, I want to show them just how much alike we are, and who they inherited what from. I want to show them that life isn't always peaches and cream, but with love and supportive family and friends, we can make it through anything. I want them to know their parents as intimately as possible. And maybe learn a few new things about themselves along the way, too.
Its a labor of passion and obsession, but most importantly a labor of love.

New Name; New Journey
Well, here's to embarking on a new journey! I wanted to create this blog to coincide with my Facebook page, the Every Day Scrapbooker (which, at the moment is called Heartfelt Sentiments Handmade Layouts and Cards). My vision is to create a place to inspire and challenge fellow scrapbookers, create an atmosphere that's warm, welcoming and friendly, and share new things that I've learned (and am learning) along the way.
I hope you'll embark on this journey with me! We can learn, inspire, challenge and grow together!
