What's Up Friday

Good afternoon! Wow, you'd think that Mother Nature would get her seasons right already!!? This blizzard weather stinks! Thankfully What's Up Friday doesn't stink. There's some great stuff to share!

Starting with another fabulous font download from Paper Crafts magazine! Every Friday, Paper Crafts brings back one of their most popular fonts for download- for free- but its only available for the week. That means, you can only download this particular font until next Friday, upon which a new one will be available! The font this week is pretty cute. Hurry and download yours today!

It's button mania today! I've got a couple button-related items to share with you, beginning with a button giveaway over at FaveCrafts. Head on over to their giveaway page and enter for your chance to win 1500 beautiful buttons. Its the perfect way to start off your button stash. You could use the buttons that you win to make projects like these- straight from the blog pages of Paper Crafts magazine- cute ice cream cone gift tags or beautiful Christmas tree cards, or, if you have a stamp in the shape of a jar, use the buttons to 'fill' up the jar! Or, use them to frame a picture. The list could go on and on! The possibilities are endless! What would you make with all those buttons?! I'd definitely try the Christmas tree card. Its stunning!! And, the jar filled with buttons? Adorable and ingenious! Now I need to find a jar stamp!!

That's all I've got so far today. Now, its time to start packing up! We are coming into the city for the night- first to have my hair done, and secondly to celebrate a late Easter with my parents and sister and bro in law. I'm stupid excited about it! (I'm also hoping to make it to Michael's to find track down a replacement blade for my paper trimmer. If one can't be found, I'll be investing in a totally new trimmer! Sadly, if that's the case, this'll be #3 paper trimmer. So, either I'll have to do my homework and find one that's better quality than the other two I've owned, or just find one that's easier to replace the cutting blades! Wish me luck. I'm also hoping to find some more card stock, too, if dear husband will let me splurge a little...)

Its spring time, and we all know that means its time to start cleaning our homes from top to bottom, donating clothes and other items that no longer fit or being used, and opening up windows to freshen up stuffy houses that have been shut up for too long. But, have you ever thought about spring cleaning up your craft area, too? I think its a novel idea, and I've been slowly working on just that sort of thing. Go through your stash, and break out those papers you've had for ten years. Use them on a layout or another project! Or, donate what you know you won't use to either a school, after school program, or seniors centre. They'll put it to good use! (I'm so sorry--I don't know where I came across the ideas I just shared with you. I think it was either Paper Crafts magazine or Creating Keepsakes--or my 'old' go-to resource, Scrapbooks Etc. magazine. You can still find them online if you want to go searching for these ideas yourself. I'd love to give proper credit for the ideas I found, but alas cannot. My apologies to the ones that originally came up with these ideas!!)

Have a look at this pretty scrap room. I wish mine could look half as tidy and organized and pretty as hers. Oh, mine's a work in progress, but its slow going. What would your dream scrap room look like?

What's Up Thursday

Read this article carefully and bookmark it for future reference! I will definitely do it! There's some fantastic tips for getting fabulous pictures and descriptions of what the different terms means, such as apertures, ISO (which is one that always had me stumped), and the different settings to use when (such as portrait mode, night time, sports and actions shots, etc). Wednesday What's Up

Oh, there's some really cool things to share with you again today. I came across a really neat rain drop technique that is going to have to show up on one of my layouts one of these days. This technique obviously will be awesome for rainy day layouts, snowy day layouts (just change the droplets for snowflakes) or alligator tear drop layouts.

If you're big into sewing, and enjoy using sewing in your layouts, then this will be right up your alley. Stitch directly on your layout, and adhere brads at the end of the stitching to create rain falling from the sky. You can find the particular layout I'm referring to here.

There is a lot of inspiration out there. All you need to do is look around you. There are also a lot of talented crafters and artists out there. One of my favorite blogs to follow is Kelly Fosters' All The Pretty Things. She shares a step-by-step tutorial today guiding you through how she makes her layouts. I love her style, though its too much work for me! Have a look- her work is gorgeous!

Calling all digi scrappers- Echo Park and Carta Bella have another One Buck Wednesday happening today, which means some of their digi kits are on sale for $1! Head over to their blogs to get all the deets!

Looking for a unique way to use up your scrap papers? Why not adhere them to a sheet of plain white card stock, run them through your die cut machine, and attach them as embellishments to your cards, layouts, or altered items? This is such a neat idea- head over to the Paper Crafts blog to see how Teri Anderson does it!

Love the look of the sunburst technique, but have a hard time wrapping your brain around how to do it, like me? Then you'll want to save this download for future use! Once again, Paper Crafts to the rescue!

Tuesday What's Up

Ok...the kids are downstairs watching the Berenstein bears...lets see how far into this post I get before I'm sabotaged!!!

Happy Tuesday, all! Its overcast and not the nicest here today, and I see that the Weather Network is calling for flurries over the next couple of days. I seriously hope not. The warm weather has been sooo great to lift ones spirits! Wouldn't you agree?!

The great finds out there today are super for lifting ones spirits, too! Check these out!

This is the ultimate dream of mine- and I've been seriously of doing this for the last six months, at least! Crop and CRUISE!!!! What is a Crop and Cruise? Pack all your scrapbooking goodies, some comfy clothes, your CAMERA, and scrap your way through a dreamy cruise. Of course, there'll be opportunities for some sight seeing and (obviously) picture taking. But, you get the best of both worlds- a getaway with nothing more than scrapbooking and crafting, if that's all you want to do. ON.A.CRUISE.LINER!!!!! Sounds fabulous, doesn't it? I know that Canadian Scrapbooker does one, and now I've just found out that Paper Crafts magazine also has a crop and cruise. Read all about it here. Who's in with me??

Fathers' Day is fast approaching, and soon it'll be time to be thinking about what to get/make for the Fathers in your life. There's a free E-book at FaveCrafts.com (blech- if you're interested) and a couple cute examples of great hand made Fathers Day gifts here for you to check out. I personally really like the wreath (but, its SOOO not Kyle). Have you come across any other hand made gifts to make for the Fathers/Mothers in your life? Feel free to share them!

Heidi Kelley, the author (and uber talented fellow scrapbooker) of an incredible blog that I follow shares this incredible Easter egg she made, and the instructions on how to re-create it yourself. I know the holiday is over, but I guarantee you'll be sorry if you miss out on the opportunity to make one for yourself. WOW!!!!

If you enjoy scrapbooking with the use of scrapbook kits, then you'll want to know (if you haven't heard already) that My Creative Scrapbooks April kit is now available. Head over to Izzy's blog to see sneak peeks of the projects she's made with the kit. On Friday, she'll have the full reveal. You won't want to miss out on that, either!!

Wow. Ever made a project using paper packaging- the plastic cup that holds buttons in it or brads, or other small type embellishments? Ever used other types of paper packaging to up cycle a unique project? I have not, as of yet, other than using bits and pieces of cardboard pieces of packaging as borders and paper elements on layouts. Melinda Spinks, over at the Jillibean blog today, shares how she made a candy holder using the plastic packaging portion of a Jillibean button package. Its truly awe-inspiring! I want to try it now!

And, speaking of up cycling and altering items, how about making over a guitar?! Ever thought of doing that??! I certainly haven't. But, this tutorial will blow your mind away! You'll find it here, at the Echo Park blog.

There's one last tutorial to share with you this morning- this time using alcohol ink and transparencies. This incredible tutorial shows you how to mimic the look of water. This technique is great for swimming or hot weather, or sports themed projects. Re-create the look by following the instructions you'll find here!

Monday What's Up

Good morning! Happy April first! Its April Fools' Day. Has anyone pranked you yet?

Its a new day; its Monday, and that means today is Mojo Monday. For our inspiration today, I'll be using a card that I made, using my own design, to kick off our first ever monthly challenge! Instead of 24 hours to complete a project, you've got the entire month! You can create as many projects as you want, using the example I've provided (which, you'll find on our page at FB), until midnight on the 30th of April. After all your projects are submitted, we'll vote on our favorite and the winner will be inducted into the Everday Scrapbooker hall of fame. Doesn't that sound exciting? Maybe in the process, you'll inspire someone else. That'd be the biggest compliment of all!

A good friend of mine, Sharon, just shared on her blog today, that's she's been asked to be a contributing author on a blog called Ideas for Scrapbookers. Whether you're a seasoned scrapbooker, or are just beginning in a new found hobby, you'll find a lot of great inspiration at this site. I Just wanted to share a few really neat things I found browsing Pinterest tonight.

First I've been seeing wedding dress cards that are made out of doilies floating around the web. The link that I finally pinned includes a tutorial on how to make it. You'll find it here!

Don't know what to do with all those Christmas cards you got for Christmas, your kids' birthdays, your own birthday, or postcards from family that are on vacation or live too far away to see regularly? Punch holes in them and make them into mini card albums! You can tie them together any way you please- either with ribbon or twine, or if you really want to get fancy, use binder rings! I love this idea. No more cards hiding in boxes around the house- now they can be displayed in an uber cute and economical way! You're saving trees (though they could be recycled if you don't want to hang on to them); but if you do, this is such a fantabulous idea!!! I've JUST started doing it!

Lastly, Paper Crafts magazine has a little giveaway going on over at their blog in honor of April Fools Day. One lucky commenter could receive a variety of stamps from a variety of manufacturers. But hurry, your entry needs to be in by Wednesday. Don't delay!

My Weakness

OK, I admit it. I'm a sucker for anything scrappy. I'm so weak! I found some really awesome goodies, I just HAD to share! (Case in point)

So first off, for those of you that are scared of scrapbooking or feel overwhelmed by terms like layout, 12x12, two page spreads, etc, this might be of interest to you. Maybe you're scared of the financial investment scrapbooking is. And, true, it can be hefty. It can also be overwhelming. Where do you begin, where do you place things, are you even artistic enough to do it? The answer is yes, you can, and work from your heart! There's no right or wrong way to do things! ANything that spills from your heart onto a piece of paper, a quilting square, that scarf you're knitting, or the embroidery you're working on, is a masterpiece. Don't feel like you can't do it. Because truthfully, I think that's a cop out. You can do whatever you put your mind to.

Now that I've gotten off my soapbox, I have a really cool alternate path to the type of scrapbooking that you see me doing, and the projects that I typically share with you. This way of scrapbooking is actually new to me- I've only recently come across this method, and I think its ingenious. I don't know how else to put it. Its just plain in.gen.ious! Maybe its worth a shot, to gently ease yourself into a newfound and newly LOVED hobby!

Take your typical every day photo album. Take the inserts with two, four or more spaces for photos, and place as many or as little photos as you'd like into the sleeves. Either embellish on top of the plastic, right on the photo itself (in the negative spaces) or save some of the photo spaces for sheets of colored paper or patterned paper to dress up a little. The possibilities are endless!

I'm thinking of sharing this technique with my mom. She's convinced she can't do it. Well, now I'm armed with proof that SHE CAN!!!! And, so can you! Check this link out for a small visual of what I'm talking about. How simple and fabulous is that?!

Does it take a little bit of the apprehension out of you?

If scrapbooking seriously isn't your bag of beans, but some of the patterned paper you see you think would make fabulous fabric, maybe checking this out would be of interest to you. If you're a person that enjoys sewing. Or, why not combine the two- scrap a little AND sew using the same patterned paper you're in love with, but with the fabric version instead? I actually think its a pretty wild and smart notion, too. Some people's creativity just blows my mind!!

Here's a really fun way to add some texture and understated bling to the banner you're going to put on your next layout. This is so neat--must try!!!

Lastly, I mentioned on my FB page that the next time you're out and about shopping up the local Dollarama or Dollar Store with more, you should check out the scrapbooking goodies in stock. Seriously, you should. I have to admit, I am incredibly impressed with the stock they are producing these days! I'll get a picture posted in the next couple of days of some of the goodies I picked up today, but who would have thought that they'd have wooden thread spools in varying sizes hanging on the shelf, or the new hot fad WASHI TAPE??! (Don't know what washi tape is? Essentially, its paper tape, but patterned and decorative and incredibly pretty. See here.) Moreover, I'm equally as impressed with the brand Sandy Lion. They are obviously doing what they can to keep up with the big manufacturing companies out there. Not only are they still producing the typical run of the mill stickers that kids have fun playing with, they are also beefing up their sticker arsenal with prettier, more decorative, variegated styles of stickers- that are GREAT for scrapbooking. Sandy Lion has WASHI TAPE! I picked two rolls up today, and I can hardly wait to try them out! (I also had to pick up some more acrylic paint. I love that stuff! I want one of every colour).

So, now that I got that out of my system, I can enjoy the rest of my weekend! Heh heh

It turns out Kyle's job tomorrow is now cancelled (for the time being), so we are planning dinner with just us and the kids. I'm going to make some delicious dinner buns that I found scouring Pinterest (thank you, Pinterest!!), and we're going to try a new chicken recipe out for supper. Apparently, we hit the grocery store too late on Easter-eve to buy a turkey breast. Meh, oh well! Chicken tastes just as good! I also got a cake made, with the kids help today, so we'll get that all iced up and ready to go tomorrow, too!

Now, the only question is yellow icing or green?!

What's Up Friday

Well, after suffering without power this morning for a couple of hours, I got a lovely email from scrapbook.com letting me know there's new yummy goodies in the superstore- the ones that caught my eye in particular are Carta Bella and Simple Stories. If you like these products too, go and check out the superstore! You'll find it at www.scrapbook.com! Now I need to make some time today to update my wish list heh heh.

I've been seeing crafting with paper towel rolls all over Pinterest lately, and now the blogging world is starting to jump on the bandwagon. I have to admit, some of it looks pretty darn cool! One of these days, I'm going to try stamping with toilet paper rolls (which is only one of the many uses/techniques I've seen using toilet paper rolls). Look here at these neat crafts!

Oh my, who wouldn't love the chance to win some fabulous goodies?! Especially when its from one of your favorite manufacturing companies?! I wouldn't. Not.at.all. That's only why I submitted my own entry and have my fingers and eyes and toes crossed that I win some yummy treats. You should, too. Jillibean is up with a giveaway and some gorgeous layouts today.

I've had a clear storage box in my possession for quite some time. I used it up until recently to store some of my patterned paper in, but have recently retired it, looking to use it someday in another way. You may find you like using them to store your paper, though. FaveCrafts is having a giveaway; two very lucky people could win these boxes- they come in a variety of colors and are durable and a great way to store a couple hundred sheets worth of paper, or your projects on the go. Go check them out!

Speaking of giveaways, Creating Keepsakes also has a giveaway. What's Up Thursday

Wow, another day is here! After a rough night between the twins, morning came way too quickly for me! But, I'm making the best of it. I got the vacuuming done already, and will shortly tackle the laundry. Miss Maren has no clean jammies left. Yikes!

There's a few things I wanted to share with you for today's What's Up. First up, Rebecca, a talented scrapbooker friend of mine, has a beautiful project up on her blog using a new product from Globecraft and Piccolo. Its an embossing powder that makes your projects look like genuine rust! If you like the look of rusted out objects, you should definitely check out her blog post today. You'll find it here. Teresa is another talented scrapbooker friend of mine, but her style is completely different from Rebecca's. Teresa creates beautiful shabby chic and CAS (clean and simple) cards. I adore her style, and hope to one day have the ability to create projects as gorgeous as hers! There's a blog hop happening with Glitz designs today. You'll find all the info you need at her blog.

Jillibean Soup is one of my utmost favorite scrapbooking manufacturers. For a long time, I'd stalked the JBS products that were in the online store at scrapbook.com, deeply admiring the colors, the patterns and beauty of Jill's line. Then, I got my first gift card, and was able to purchase some of my dream product! Ever since then, I've continued to admire the products that Jill's design team produces, and I'm coming to like Jill as a person, too. She's got great energy and seems to be a relatable, down to earth individual. There's more projects up on the JBS blog today. Check them out!

You'll come to find that most of the blogs I follow are of people that I've met at scrapbook.com, and each one of them (or most), I've become online friends with. Izzy is no exception. Wow, you need to check out Izzy's projects, too! All these women I've met are extraordinary! The talent out there is incredible! Izzy has an uber cute Easter project up on her blog today.

Here's a little tidbit for you: another of my utmost favorite scrapbooking manufacturers is Carta Bella. I found out, after some snooping around the other day, that Carta Bella is a sister company of another scrapbooking manufacturer, Echo Park. Since I'm already having an affair with Carta Bella, I figured I'd probably love Echo Park equally as much. Yes, I do!!! I don't have any of their product yet, but I am stalking them on Pinterest and scrapbook.com AND on their blog. ANd, up on their blog today, are some delicious projects! More Easter goodies today! (Which, by the way, are you ready for it??!)

(Darn, the kids came back upstairs...that means I've got to make the rest of this quick!!)

Simple Stories is up with a gorgeous layout and an incredibly stunning card. I had to pin it to Pinterest! The colors are incredibly yummy! (A little secret--Simple Stories is another fave of mine!) The design team member used papers from their new collection, Urban Traveller. Glorious stuff!!

Personalizing a card is something I've personally never done, but its on my scrappy bucket list! The Go-To Gals over at Paper Crafts magazine has just the remedy for that!

If you're a Pinterest junkie like me, you may have seen a lot of chalkboard art around lately. Its a hot trend nowadays, and I love the way it looks. If I had the right tools, I'd love to replicate it. Check out what Laina Lamb has to say about it!

I came across this blog doing some snooping way back. These girls are Canadians and they have a new card challenge up. The theme is Easter! Check it out!

And lastly, but certainly not least, another Easter project (and a beautiful one, I might add!) can be found at the Scrapbook Memories and More blog. The colors are fantastic!

Our Easter is going to be a quiet one. I think my husband is working through the holiday, so we'll be staying home and celebrating with just the four of us. Having said that, though, we are coming into the city next weekend (the first weekend in April) to celebrate a late Easter with my sis and BIL and my parents. I'm looking forward to it! How do you spoil your little ones at Easter time? I don't want to give the kids candy (they don't need it- they still have a butt load of candy left from Halloween), so instead, I like them to show me what they're interested in and like when we're out shopping. I take notes (but, they're oblivious to it) and pay particularly close attention to them, and try and get a few things that really interest them. Its neat to see them showing a keen interest in art at such a young age. What drew them the last time we were out shopping? A bead kit to make your own bracelets and necklaces. I'm down with that! So, that's what they are getting for Easter!

There's a few more goodies I've found!!

-One of the projects I enjoy making are cards, and I try and keep an eye out for simple sketches or cards others have made that I can easily replicate. Or, in cases like this, if a pattern is included, I just may have to try cards like these adorable chickens!!

And lastly, the next design team call is open for Lets Capture Our Memories. They are fantastic- I was on the design team early last year, and I had an absolute blast there! Everyone is friendly, the sketches are phenomenal, and it was a lot of fun being challenged to create something new twice a month. They are also a Canadian Company, and another online forum like Two Peas in a Bucket, Scrapbook.com, etc. If you're interested in joining a design team; if you've been dreaming of it like I had, then I urge you to apply! You never know, you might make it, and you'll definitely have a blast when you do!!

I would love to re-apply, but right now isn't the time for that. Maybe one day again in the future. Don't be shy. Check it out!!
